Your Nashville Chapter of the Society of Marketing Professional Services is pleased to present Paul Fassbender, Assistant Commissioner of Policy and Federal Programs at the Tennessee department of Economic and Community Development at our luncheon on October 17th.
Paul will give a brief overview of “Jobs for Tennessee,” a speech that covers the state economic and business development program under Gov. Haslam. This includes a new, regional approach to business development and a focus on expanding existing businesses, where 86 percent of new jobs are created. In addition to an overview, he will report on how it’s working, including several success stories.
We hope to see you on the 17th. Networking begins at 11, and the program includes lunch.
The content of Emily Turner’s talk was immediately applicable to all in the room.
Here’s to better presentations! And not making the “Bimbo” mistake.

ACEC is calling for entries for the 2012 EEA Competition.
The American Council of Engineering Companies’ (ACEC) annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value, and ingenuity. For 20 consecutive years, ACEC of Tennessee has recognized the most innovative projects and studies performed by Tennessee firms.
In this month’s program, Emily Turner will introduce us to Spaeth Communications’ signature Influence ModelTM, a proven methodology for ensuring that messages are disseminated in a thoughtful and effective manner. Emily Turner has worked with many construction executives. She will cover important information that can be used immediately for your next business presentation.
The Influence ModelTM charts three main channels of information or “networks” to internal or external audiences:
(1) what the listener/audience knows the company controls such as advertising or brochures,
(2) the media, which is viewed as objective, and;
(3) verbal communication such as proposal presentations, and the importance of person-to-person communication.
The Influence ModelTM shows that all three of these networks need to be aligned and used proactively. We will learn a new definition of effective communication (“How to influence what the target audience hears, believes and remembers” as opposed to what the speaker wants to say or thinks the audience needs to know). The teaching will be backed up by entertaining and educational real world video examples. We’ll also discuss the role of new media.
Special thanks to Stantec and Street Dixon Rick Architecture for making this exciting program possible.

Nashville SMPS members took a behind-the-scenes tour on site at the new MTSU Student Union Monday evening. We walked through with architects from Street Dixon Rick Architecture and Thomas, Miller & Partners and representatives from Messer Construction. They gave us insight into the building’s design, and really brought the project to life for us.
We’re also proud of our member firms who contributed, PSI and IC Thomasson.
It was a great evening – we saw an amazing building in progress, learned about BIM in practice, and enjoyed happy hour at Chuy’s in Murfreesboro.
If you missed the tour, you can still view the presentation here.
Due to a speaker scheduling conflict, our July program has changed. We have a rare opportunity to view the MTSU Student Union under construction.
